The WMAEF junior race program is a non-profit development program for young alpine racers. Its foremost goal is to nurture a lifelong enjoyment of the mountains and the sport of skiing in young athletes. In addition, each athlete is encouraged to reach his or her potential as a skier and to enjoy a positive experience in a competitive sport.

LEARN THE FUNDAMENTALS

Each year, eager young skiers sign up for the Wildcat Mountain Ski Team. These junior racers learn to master the challenging terrain at Wildcat, race tactics and to compete in local and regional races. The Wildcat Mountain Alpine Education Foundation is more than just a race program for young skiers ages 7 to 14, it is a program designed to encourage the love of winter sports. In addition to downhill racing, the program promotes the fundamental skills of skiing and even some cross-country skiing and snowboarding. The goal is to provide a fun and challenging mountain experience while encouraging a love for the sport.

BE A PART OF THE TEAM

In addition to developing skiing skills, it is important to teach young athletes the value of hard work, cooperation and team spirit, and self-reliance. Cooperation and friendship among team members and respect for other teams and mountains is encouraged. Responsible friendly behavior towards everyone involved is expected. Finally, the club believes in educating the parents of the racers about the sport, both to facilitate their involvement in club sponsored activities and to help them organize and support their children's efforts.
